Mark Ramprakash smashed 121 as Surrey thrashed Gloucestershire by 164 runs to condemn them to their first FP Trophy defeat of the season at The Oval.

Ramprakash plundered nine fours and three sixes in his 124-ball knock and shared stands of 94 with Usman Afzaal (34) and 96 with Matthew Spriegel (64).

Their efforts helped the home side to amass 306-6 from their 50 overs.

Only William Porterfield (42) put up any resistance as Gloucestershire were bowled for just 142 inside 34 overs.

After losing the toss, Surrey lost opener Scott Newman, caught behind by Steven Adshead off the bowling of Jon Lewis for nine, to bring Ramprakash to the crease with the score at 31-1.

Michael Brown (34) departed caught and bowled by Anthony Ireland before Ramprakash's stand with Afzaal, but it was Spiegel's arrival that accelerated the scoring.

His 64 came from just 55 deliveries as the 96 runs he shared with Ramprakash were racked up in 12 overs.

In reply, Gloucestershire lost openers Kadeer Ali and Hamish Marshall cheaply, and when a mix-up with Chris Taylor saw Porterfield run out by Spriegel, the visitors lost their last seven wickets for 33 runs.

Surrey batsman Matthew Spriegel told BBC London 94.9:

"Ramps is playing brilliantly at the minute so I was just trying to play with him.

"I've been working hard over the winter and in the early part of the summer so I was pleased with the shots I played.

"It's important to get a good start with the ball, and my job was made easier because they were four wickets down when I came on."
