Frith ton inspires Guernsey win

Cricket: Guernsey v Nigeria
Jeremy Frith sweeps the four that took him to his century and won the match

Jeremy Frith hit a century as Guernsey moved a step closer to promotion by beating Nigeria to claim their third ICC WCL Division Seven victory.

After winning the toss, Nigeria made 217-5 from their 50 overs, Endurance Ofem top scoring with 78 not out.

But Guernsey got home with three overs in hand, Frith (101 no) sealing it with the boundary that also brought his ton.

"It's great to be out there and finish the job and hopefully get us a step closer to Singapore," said Frith.

Guernsey captain Stuart Le Prevost hit an unbeaten 59 at the College Field, sharing a century partnership with Frith as they eased to a third group win in four games.

"It was great," he told BBC Guernsey. " I play in the same club side as Jeremy and we bat well together.

"The Nigerians bowled really well early doors. They didn't give us much to hit. They set different fields which some of the guys weren't used to."

Singapore is the venue for the Division Six tournament to be held at the end of August 2009, which will feature the top two sides from the Guernsey Division Seven tournament.

Bahrain, who beat Guernsey on Wednesday, have already booked their place with four straight wins.

And second-placed Guernsey will join them if they now beat Suriname in Saturday's final game at the KGV.

Saturday's games (23 May): Suriname v Guernsey (KGV), Bahrain v Nigeria (Port Soif), Gibraltar v Japan (College Field).
