Guernsey in 73-run Nepal defeat

Guernsey v Nepal
Nepal's bowlers restricted Guernsey to a total of 136

Guernsey went down to a 73-run defeat against an experienced Nepalese team at Port Soif on Wednesday.

Guernsey looked as though they could get a second consecutive win after restricting the Nepalese to 65-5.

But a sixth-wicket stand of 103 between Sarad Veswawar and Mehboob Alam helped propel the Asian side to 209-7.

In reply, Guernsey found it tough to deal with the Nepalese slow bowlers, leg spinner Rajkumar Pradhan taking 4-36 as they ended 136 all out.

Guernsey's top scorer was captain Stuart le Prevost who hit 41 while Jeremy Frith scored 24 as they failed to add to Tuesday's 158-run win over the Bahamas.

"They had a little too much quality for us on the day," Le Prevost told BBC Guernsey.

With a team of that sort of quality you're not going to run through them and bowl them for 100, it just doesn't happen

"I thought we did pretty well in the field. We had them 60-5, which is obviously great. But they put a bit of a partnership together.

"To be honest with a team of that sort of quality you're not going to run through them and bowl them out for 100. It just doesn't happen."

"Our batsmen stuck to the task and made sure they didn't lose too many wickets in the middle," said Nepal captain Binod Kumar Das. "They helped us reach the target of 209 which is quite a commendable job by them."

The Nepalese now go to Jersey to play Germany in their final warm-up match on Thursday before the start of the ICC's World Cricket League Division 5 tournament on Friday.
