Habibul Bashar
Bashar scored 24 for Bangladesh
Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar was still hopeful of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals after his side's 10-wicket defeat to Australia.

Bangladesh could only manage 104 from their 22 overs in a rain-affected match, a score that the defending champions chased down in 13.5 overs.

"We lost three early wickets and that cost us the match," said Bashar.

"We didn't get enough runs but we hope to take the lessons from this match into our next game."

The defeat left Bangladesh at the bottom of the Super 8s table with no points and an inferior run-rate to Ireland.

And coach Dav Whatmore afterwards urged his young top order batsmen to rein in their attacking instincts to enable the side to post competitive totals.

Glenn McGrath took three wickets as they were reduced to 37-4 at the start of their innings against Australia.

"You tell the batsmen that McGrath's got an excellent economy rate and it's not easy to hit him, but they still try and go after him. They do exactly what you warned them against.

"It's frustrating to see the boys squander opportunities with a rush of blood here and a rush of blood there," said Whatmore.

"The batsmen should have been more discreet in their selection of strokes - the inexperience showed up against a good attack.

"I'm trying to get a little more logic into them, hoping that would do the trick."

Whatmore said his team would have preferred to chase a target with less than half the normal overs available because of the weather.

He added: "I'll be telling the boys not to get too carried away by the result, we've got to look at the reasons why this happened.

"Winning and losing are outcomes of how you've played. If you do well collectively, you can hope for good results."
