First Test, Darwin, day three: Australia 207 & 201 beat Sri Lanka 97 & 162 by 149 runs

Michael Kasprowicz
Kasprowicz took the last five wickets to fall

Michael Kasprowicz took seven wickets as Australia beat Sri Lanka by 149 runs in the first Test in Darwin.

Chasing 312 for victory on a tough pitch, the visitors were never in the hunt after losing three early wickets.

Kasprowicz claimed the final five wickets to fall to finish with figures of 7-39.

The only resistance came from Mahela Jayawardene (44) and Tilan Samaraweera (32) but once they went the rest of Sri Lanka's batsmen offered little.

Glenn McGrath was at his probing best to open the third day with five maiden overs before, but it was Kasprowicz who got the first breakthrough.

He removed Marvan Atapattu and then Kumar Sangakkara was run out.

McGrath's accuracy was rewarded with the wicket of Sanath Jayasuriya and Sri Lanka's fate was sealed when the 79-run partnership between Jayawardene and Samaraweera was ended by the veteran paceman.

Shane Warne failed to take a wicket from 19 overs and Jason Gillespie was also wicketless.
