England A scored a comfortable win in their first match of their tour of Malaysia, with a 112-run win at Kuala Lumpur's Royal Selengor Club.

Warwickshire's Graham Wagg was the star performer with 38 off just 31 balls and 3-4 off five overs.

And Simon Jones got through seven overs in which he took 1-19.

England discard Ed Smith (46) and Surrey's Scott Newman (50) enjoyed themselves while Essex all-rounder Graham Napier also had a good match.

Kent's James Tredwell captained the tourists and won the toss before electing to bat first.

Kadeer Ali and Kevin Pietersen were early casualties of the Malaysian Academy XI's new-ball pair, but Michael Lumb helped Smith add 39 for the third wicket.

Smith and Newman upped the pace with a 47-run stand but Bilal Shafayat, who was keeping wicket, was stumped for a duck.

Napier and Wagg picked up the pace over the closing overs with a 58-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Chasing 214 to win from 46 overs, the home side struggled in the early overs with Napier and Wagg enjoying the conditions.

Between them, they picked up five of the first six wickets, while Jones, bowling at first change, had the Malyasian number three, Gopinath, caught behind for 10.

Krishanmurthi came in with the score 6-26 and struck a defiant 52 before he was the last man to be dismissed with the total on 101.

Spinners Shaftab Khalid and James Tredwell shared the last four wickets.
