Masters puts Foxes on top
County Championship D1, Leicester, day one
Leicestershire 72-1; Warwickshire 253

David Masters claimed figures of 5-53 as Warwickshire were bowled out in 75 overs at Grace Road.

Masters, the fourth of five seamers employed by Phil DeFreitas, struck twice early in his spell to see off the best two middle order batsmen, Mark Wagh (35) and Ian Bell (0).

He went on to have the dangerous Sony Frost caught behind for 11 and added a couple of tail-enders to his haul.

However, having been 193-9 despite Nick Knight's 66, Warwickshire added 60 for the last wicket with Waqar Younis (52) to the fore.

Leicestershire had 19 overs of batting either side of a break for rain.

Virender Sehwag, the only wicket to fall in that time, treated the crowd to a cameo 30 off 21 balls before being bowled by Melvyn Betts.

Leicestershire: J K Maunders, V Sehwag, D L Maddy, B J Hodge, D I Stevens, P A Nixon (Wkt), J N Snape, P A J DeFreitas (Capt), D D Masters, C E Dagnall, M J A Whiley.

Warwickshire: N V Knight, M J Powell (Capt), M A Wagh, I R Bell, I J L Trott, T Frost (Wkt), N M K Smith, D R Brown, A Richardson, M M Betts, Waqar Younis.
