Commonwealth Games 2010: Zoe Smith takes bronze

Bronze for 16-year-old Smith

Sixteen-year-old Zoe Smith won bronze for England in the women's 58kg weightlifting with a combined lift of 188kg at the Commonwealth Games.

The Londoner almost took silver but twice failed at 108kg in the clean and jerk that would have moved her up.

Australia's Seen Lee ended 4kgs ahead of Smith with India's Renu Bala victorious in front of her home crowd.

"It's a shame about my last two lifts, but I am just pleased to get a medal," said Smith.

"It is not a gold medal hanging around my neck but I don't care at the moment - it is a Commonwealth medal and it hasn't sunk in at all.

"I am delighted with the way I performed although I was nervous at the start."

Smith's England team-mate Helen Jewell finished down the field with 170kg while Canada's Emily Quarton, who won silver at Melbourne four years ago, was a disappointing fifth.
