Great British amateur boxer Lewis Rees has turned professional and signed up with new Welsh trainer Gary Lockett.

The 21-year-old from Tonypandy is a two-time Home Nations champion and has won three Welsh Amateur Boxing titles.

Rees will join Lockett's three other fighters Bradley Pryce, Jeff Evans and British lightweight champion Gavin Rees at his promising stable on Monday.

"I've been tracking Lewis' progress for two years and I'm really excited about Lewis signing," said trainer Lockett.

Lockett, the former WBU middleweight world champion, will also manage the promising Rees, who missed out on a qualification shot for the Welsh team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games due to injury.

Lockett will now start to talk with prospective promoters about the possibility of fighting up the promising Welsh fighter.

"He has obvious technical ability," added Lockett. "But I feel Lewis is better suited to the professional ranks due to his style."
