Gavin after title shot with Khan

Birmingham's Frankie Gavin
Gavin is yet to lose in three fights as a professional

Birmingham's rising star Frankie Gavin says he wants to fight Amir Khan for his light-welterweight world title.

Gavin, 23, knocked out Graham Fern in his third professional bout on the undercard of Khan's WBA title fight with Andreas Kotelnik on Saturday.

Gavin used to spar with Khan and he told BBC WM: "I'd fight Khan tomorrow.

"It's something I'd really be excited by. We both had great amateur careers. I'm still a novice but, if things keep progressing, he wants to watch out."

Gavin is Britain's first ever amateur world champion and he fancies his chances of emulating Khan's success of holding a professional world title.

"Yeah, definitely. I wouldn't have turned pro if I never thought I could do it. No-one's ever been a world amateur champion from Britain and I'd love to do both," he said.

"I look at the way his career's gone and there's no reason why I can't do that. He's having a great pro career so far and so am I."

Gavin is a life-long Birmingham City fan and wants any showdown with Khan to be in his patch.

"St Andrew's football ground would be good. It would be good for Britain because the title would be staying in Britain - hopefully coming to Birmingham," he added.
