Calzaghe next for Woods - Hobson

Clinton Woods
Woods is looking to regain his light-heavyweight world title

Sheffield boxing promoter Dennis Hobson wants to tempt Joe Calzaghe out of retirement with a clash against light-heavyweight fighter Clinton Woods.

Woods had insisted he would retire from the sport if he could not overcome Elvir Muriqi in their eliminator fight in Jersey earlier this month.

But the 36-year-old triumphed with a dominating victory over the Kosovan.

Hobson told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I've called Calzaghe out. It will be a great domestic fight if Calzaghe fancies it."

He added: "I think if there is a world title at stake then it will be likely. If you think about it, who can Calzaghe make the most money out of? This fight will generate great money."

It is not the first time Hobson has talked about the two meeting in the ring and if it did happen it would be a fight that would capture global interest.

Hobson is now waiting for a response from the Calzaghe camp to see if this bout can become a reality for boxing fans.
