Dean Francis says he is targeting a world title after becoming the new British light-heavyweight champion.

The Bristol-based boxer stunned Tony Oakey on Friday in front of his home crowd in Portsmouth to add the Lonsdale Belt to his Commonwealth title.

"I'm going to give myself two years," Francis, 34, told BBC Points West.

"By the end of that two years I will be world champion definitely, and will have defended it a couple of times hopefully. I'm very proud of myself."

He added: "It's a massive achievement from where I've come from since I won the British [super-middleweight] title the first time around [in 1997]."

I chose this fight to silence all the doubters

Francis, who has made a successful comeback from injury, says his victory against Oakey proves he has returned to full fitness.

"I chose this fight to silence all the doubters, and that's what I've done," he said.

"I threw the right hand countless times and hit him with solid right hands, so they can't really say anything about my right hand anymore which I'm glad of because they keep going on about it!"
