Sellers next up for Maccarinelli
WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli

Enzo Maccarinelli will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against Ezra Sellers in Cardiff on 3 November.

The fight will feature on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's 21st world title defence against Mikkel Kessler at the Millennium Stadium.

Maccarinelli, 27, had been hoping for a unification fight against Steve Cunningham, but the IBF champion opted to face Tomasz Adamek in January.

Sellers, 39, only recently returned to the ring after taking three years out.

Enzo's a great fighter but I'm not sure how good his chin is

The American southpaw took time out after losing an IBF cruiserweight eliminator against O'Neil Bell in September 2004.

He returned to the ring last July and got his career back on track with a sixth-round stoppage of Troy Beets, his 28th win in 35 fights.

One of his seven career defeats came against Johnny Nelson for the WBO title back in 2002.

"Enzo's a great fighter but I'm not sure how good his chin is," said Sellers.

"We'll find out when I start landing my bombs on it, and he is not going to be able to take my power.

"I regularly knock out heavyweights in sparring, so beating up Maccarinelli won't take me too long."

Maccarinelli defended his title for the third time with a bruising but unanimous points victory over Wayne Braithwaite in Cardiff in July.

"Braithwaite was a dynamite puncher and it looks like I've got another big hitter in Sellers," said Maccarinelli.

Although Sellers punches like a kicking horse, I think I punch harder

"I've seen some of his knockouts and it makes for frightening viewing, but I'm confident I will win the fight and cement my position as the number one cruiserweight in the world.

"Although Sellers punches like a kicking horse, I think I punch harder, and that will give me the edge.

"Over the next 12 months, I want to unify the cruiserweight division, and I'm not going to let Sellers shatter my dream.

"With Calzaghe-Kessler on the top of the bill, it's going to be an amazing night for Welsh boxing."

The Swansea man responded to criticism from Darnell Wilson this week, as the American put himself forward as the main challenger for Maccarinelli's crown.

"Darnell is not as good as he makes out to be," said Maccarinelli. "He is one dimensional and comes straight at you.

"He is one-paced and will throw five or six punches to land on.

"But he is a decent fighter. Don't get me wrong, he is no mug or bum, but we will wait to see what happens with him."
