Alex Arthur claimed the European super featherweight belt with a points win over defending champion Boris Sinitsin.

The Scottish boxer dominated the fight and had the 34-year-old Russian down on the canvas in the 12th round.

Arthur was cut above his right eye after a left hook from Sinitsin in the third round and then a clash of heads in the sixth opened up his left eye.

But when the final bell sounded, there was no doubt that Arthur had prevailed to the delight of the Meadowbank crowd.

Arthur, who already has the British and Commonwealth titles, played it safe in the opening round but a stunning left and right combination had Sinitsin on the back foot in the second.

He continued to find his way through the champion's guard in the third but then got caught by a left hook and a terrific right.

Sinitsin continued his fightback in the fourth but Arthur re-established his authority with a variety of punches and kept up a work rate that the Russian struggled to cope with.

Arthur was firmly in control in the latter stages and with the crowd baying for a knockout, he put Sinitsin on the floor in the final round.

The defending champion got up to take a standing count but there was no way back for him as Arthur had already snatched his crown.
