Kelly digs deep to outpoint Booth
Northern Ireland's Damaen Kelly
Kelly's all-action style proved decisive in a tough encounter
Belfast's Damaen Kelly dug deep to outpoint Jason Booth and claim the IBO super flyweight title in Huddersfield.

Kelly showed he has recovered from the demolition he suffered against IBF flyweight Irene Pacheco 16 months ago.

The 31-year-old battled and scrapped his way for 12 rounds to inflict only the fourth defeat on Booth in 29 bouts.

Kelly imposed himself early on and, despite a cut above the eye caused by an accidental clash of heads, managed to stay ahead of a stubborn Booth.

Kelly believed he deserved the win following the close encounter.

"Jason is a tough fighter and is very strong so I tried to stay out of his way and box on the move," he said.

"I think that, to be honest, I did enough to win it. It was close enough but overall I am pretty sure I shaded it."
