American 110m hurdler Allen Johnson won his fourth World Championship title on Saturday.
The 32-year-old exploded out of the blocks and, despite rattling a few of the barriers, he made no mistakes to cross the line in 13.12 seconds.
His team-mate Terrence Trammell made up for his less than impressive early form in Paris by clinching silver, 0.08 seconds behind Johnson.
World junior record holder Liu Xiang of China, who has been in good form this season, took bronze.
Johnson's triumph saw him join an elite group of six men who have won at least four world golds at a single event.
"The first world title that I won was the best but the fourth title is nice too," said Johnson.
"I wanted to run fast but it didn't happen.
"I didn't feel like I was in my rhythm out there and I just kept telling myself to make it through the race."
The main threat to Johnson in Paris would have been Stanislavs Olijars, who is the only man to have beaten the American this year.
But the Latvian failed to make the final because of injury.
In 10 years, Johnson has only lost the title once, to Britain's recently-retired world record holder Colin Jackson in 1999.
