Holmes won the athlete of the year award for the second time
Kelly Holmes won two awards at the British Athletics Writers' Association annual dinner on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Olympic 800m and 1500m champion in Athens was named female athlete of the year after first winning the award in 1995.

She also won the prize for the best performance in a British vest for her 800m triumph.

The top men's award was won by Britain's Olympic gold medal-winning 100m relay team.

The quartet of Marlon Devonish, Darren Campbell, Jason Gardener and Mark Lewis-Francis pipped the Americans to glory in Athens.

Last month, Holmes won the International Association of Athletics Federations award for the best women's performance in the world this year for the 800m.

The junior male prize was won by Richard Davenport, 19, who broke the British junior 400m hurdles record at the World Junior Championships.

The junior female award went to Danni Barnes, another 19-year-old, who came fourth in the 1500m at the same championships.

The Ron Pickering memorial award for service to athletics went to Bill Adcocks, who has been involved in athletics for 45 years either as an athlete or an administrator.

Adcocks held the course record for the Athens marathon from 1969 until it was finally broken at this summer's Olympics.
