Golfer Lee Westwood was born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and still lives in the area. At school he was a keen sportsman and played rugby union, cricket and football. He supports Nottingham Forest FC and says the only time he gets nervous is when he watches them!
He started playing golf at the age of 13 when his grandparents bought him a half set of clubs. His dad took him out to play on a local course during the school holidays.
As an amateur, Lee played for England boys, youth and senior teams before turning professional in 1993. He made his first breakthrough on the European Tour in 1996 by winning the Volvo Scandinavian Masters.
Lee ended 2000 as Europe's number one player, taking over from Colin Montgomerie who had topped the European Tour money list for seven consecutive years.
During the 2000 season he won seven tournaments and finished ahead of Tiger Woods twice. Lee won a £1 bet with his friend and rival Darren Clarke that he'd finish ahead of him on the European money list - Clarke finished second. Westwood also won the Golf Writers' Player of the Year trophy for 2000 (the second time he'd won it) and the PGA European Tour's Player of the Year award.
Lee's three main wishes for 2001 are a healthy baby (he and his wife Laurae expect their first child in April), to win one of the Majors and for Nottingham Forest to reach the Premiership!
