Andrew Flintoff
Andrew Flintoff

  • Andrew Flintoff was born in Preston and plays cricket for Lancashire and England.

  • A talented all-rounder, he's been called one of English cricket's most exciting prospects. But although he's only in his early twenties, his career so far has been affected by persistent back injuries.

  • As a boy, Andrew played football for Preston schoolboys and Leyland St Mary's. He supported his local team, Preston North End, and also admits a soft spot for Liverpool FC. Andrew was also a dab-hand at table-tennis.

  • His sporting heroes while he was growing up were legendary cricketers Ian Botham and Viv Richards, boxer Mike Tyson and Liverpool star John Barnes.

  • Andrew played cricket from an early age and turned out for Lancashire under-11s through to under-16s. At the age of 15, he played for their second XI and made his first-class debut aged 17. On the England scene, he's played from under-14s right through to senior international level and captained the under-19 side on their tour of Pakistan. His Test debut was against South Africa in 1998.

  • His nickname is Fred - something to do with his surname sounding like that of a famous cartoon caveman!
