Mark Bright
Mark Bright

  • Stoke-born Mark Bright played football for non-League Leek Town, before joining his local club, Port Vale, in 1981. In an 18-year career, Mark played for Leicester, Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall, before ending his playing days at Charlton. He scored 209 goals in 574 games.

  • Once, while playing for Port Vale's youth team, Mark was taken off at half-time. The coach told him to look for a job as he'd never make it as a footballer!

  • The highpoint of Mark's football career was probably his prolific striking partnership at Palace with Ian Wright during the late 80s and early 90s. Wrighty and Brighty have been reunited for their own Saturday lunchtime football show on BBC 5 Live.

  • He's married to singer and former EastEnders actress Michelle Gayle. They have a baby son.

  • Since retiring from playing in 1999, Mark has established a thriving media career. He has reported for Football Focus, commentated on games for 5 Live, and co-presented a football fanzine on BBC Choice.
