Modern racing boats are divided into two main catgories, monohulls (ie one hulled) and multihulls (either two hulled, ie a catamaran, or three hulled ie a trimaran).
Foncia is a 60ft trimaran which, when it was launched in 1997, was one of the most modern multihulls in the water. Now it has been superceded by a new generation of boats, built in secret this winter, although many of them have yet to be fully tested. Foncia remains one of the best of its class and, in the hands of skipper Alain Gautier and chief navigator Ellen MacArthur, will be the boat to beat. Here we bring you an in-depth guide to her key features. |
