Britain's most talented all-round athlete Denise Lewis is going for gold in the heptathlon. She appears to improve year on year, and last summer grabbed the silver at the World Championships. In 1996 she was our only female medallist, and is probably our best chance of gold among the women in Sydney. She will need to improve on her personal best to win the title, but that is not beyond her. She must overcome her conqueror in Seville, Eunice Barber of France, and see off Ghada Shouaa of Syria and Shandra Nathan of the USA, but it is within her capabilities. A victory, and she truly will be the glamour girl of British athletics. |
