Pedro de la Rosa is one of Formula One's nice guys, and in 2002 he carried on the good work he did last year in underlining that he has the talent to go with it.
The Spaniard is a bright, technically-minded man and he did a good job for much of the season with Jaguar.
He showed well against team-mate Eddie Irvine, although there was always the impression that the Northern Irishman had something in reserve for whenever the car began to be more competitive.
Certainly, Irvine seemed to stretch clear of De la Rosa later on in the season.
De la Rosa also made a few too many mistakes over the course of the season.
But he remains a solid team player, who deserves a ride in F1.
Whether he will have one is in serious doubt, though, for somewhat harshly Jaguar sacked him at the end of the year.
