Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso was only 19 when he made his debut at the start of 2001, but, even with a Minardi at his disposal, he has already proved that he is a talent worth watching.

He impressed in Formula 3000, and the signs are that he has the potential to make a serious career in F1.

Minardi, though, is not going to be the place to do it. The team is simply struggling to survive this year, but it says a lot of Alonso that he has managed to impress despite this.

He has looked quick and composed, but it is nevertheless going to be difficult for anyone to give a clear picture of his potential driving a car that is this far off the pace.

Fortunately for Alonso, he is a protégé of Benetton boss Flavio Briatore, so he should have plenty of chances to prove what he can do.

Don't be surprised if he finds himself impressing in a better car next year. If not as soon as that, it will surely happen in the future.
