Ahmedabad
2nd Test, from 11 December
Within a day's drive of the Pakistan border, Ahmedabad offers up the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera.
Built in a record nine months, this is one of India's newer stadiums. It played host to its first Test in 1983, when Sunil Gavaskar overtook Geoff Boycott's mark of 8,114 runs to be the highest accumulator in Test cricket.
Despite taking nine wickets in the second innings, skipper Kapil Dev had to watch as the West Indies comfortably won the match. His decision to bowl first cost his side dear.
Four years later, Gavaskar moved past the 10,000 mark at Motera, and clearly this was a ground destined for Test records because Kapil claimed his world Test record of 432 victims here against Sri Lanka.
The ground has favoured India, who have won twice and lost just once in the three Tests where there have been positive results here.
