Freak injury rules out Lovegrove

Hull KR badge Hull KR utility man Rhys Lovegrove will miss the start of the Super League season after severing tendons in his hand in a freak accident at a funeral.

The 20-year-old former St George Illawarra player is expected to sit out the opening month after falling over and cutting himself on some glass.

Lovegrove, who can play centre or in the second row, will see a specialist on Friday to assess the injury.

Hull KR play defending champions Leeds in their opening game on 2 February.

"We will miss his versatility in the first part of the season," coach Justin Morgan told the Hull Daily Mail.

"He was definitely in my thoughts for selection in the season opener at Headingley."
