Carney to discuss Sheff Utd move

David Carney Australia midfielder David Carney has been granted permission to speak to Sheffield United over a possible move.

The 23-year-old, who starred in the Asia Cup in July, had earlier expressed his annoyance that Sydney FC had blocked talks.

But after receiving an official bid from the Blades, Sydney relented.

"We always said we wouldn't stand in his way if we received a genuine offer in everyone's best interests," said Sydney chief executive George Perry.

Carney, who began his career at Everton before spells at Halifax, Oldham and Hamilton, has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

"There are a number of English clubs who want to meet with me," Carney told the Sheffield Star on Tuesday.

"Like any other player, I am really keen to explore those options."
