The night the Berlin Wall 'fell'

BBC News' Gavin Hewitt was in Berlin in November 1989 making a film for Panorama on the momentous events that saw the Wall open and people pass openly between East and West for the first time in a generation.

Here, he reports on the confusion and anxiety of the East German authorities and the excitement and optimism of the people of Berlin on that night.
