Panorama: Licence to Torture was broadcast on BBC One at 8.30pm on Monday 13 July 2009.

Interesting programme - but what's the point? The only reservations I have about the use of these interrogation techniques is that they apply them to guilty individuals and effectiveness. Its extension to ordinary prisoners is not acceptable. Terrorists are not in my view due the protection of the Geneva convention. They do not operate by any rules they don't deserve rules to care for them. So the problems are 1) limitation of application of the techniques 2) whether the techniques are actually effective? If 1 & 2 are true then use them.

Thank you Panorama for "Licence to Torture". Journalists have a vitally important role to play when the first instinct of a government is to cover up. The more light that is shed on this episode in American history, the better for all of us who care about the rule of law.

Sometimes you have to use extreme measures against extremists who would otherwise cause major problems. Unfortunately sometimes a few innocent people may get hurt.

People who are involved in allowing such torture and interrogation techniques have to be dealt with and alongside that, America can take their democracy and human rights and flush them down the toilet. Absolute hypocrites!

I would just like to say that I completely disagree with the amount of publicity over this topic. To me it is much more important that we extract all the information we can out of any member of the al-Qaeda or any other terrorist group using any methods available including HARDCORE TORTURE. After the events of 9/11 and 7/7, how can anybody who is American or British have a problem with how we treat these TERRORISTS? When these terrorist events take place the whole world hates the people involved in planning and pursuing these despicable actions and would like to see everybody in these terrorist groups executed. These people who are anti-torture against terrorists need to sort out their priorities and think of something else to moan about. I personally believe that any terrorist caught should be questioned and tortured. If they still won't talk then they need to be killed in the most despicable way possible. Instead we supply them with lawyers who work their hardest to try and give these animals a lighter sentence, I think is is outrageous, I can think of better ways to spend taxpayers' money, and I'm sure you can as well.

- Andy Lewis

Do you think the terrorists believe in the Geneva convention no. This is not a conventional war so extreme measures must be taken to protect our soldiers and country.

- Alex Hartley

People are up in arms because we mental and in some cases physically tortures these terrorists....yet, when they catch one of us they don't just torture us, but they like to separate our heads from the rest of our bodies!! Which is worse I ask you?
