After the show, Prince Charles met performers, including the cast of Wicked, backstage.

The Prince also met the king of the Copacabana, Barry Manilow, who performed a selection of hits from the 1960s.

Singer Rod Stewart topped the bill, singing Father and Son and It's A Heartache. He was joined backstage by Meatloaf, who had performed a song from Bat Out Of Hell III.

The Prince of Wales also greeted veteran comedian Ken Dodd. The Royal Variety Performance will be shown on BBC One on 12 December.
