Teenager Kriss laid to rest

Family and friends carry Kriss Donald's coffin A teenager whose body was found on a footpath in the east end of Glasgow has been described as "a gentle and loving boy" at his funeral service.

Kriss Donald's family and friends attended a service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pollok.

Brian McKechnie, who led the Mormon service, read out a tribute from Kriss's mother Angela.

Two men have been charged with the alleged abduction and murder of Kriss.

Daanish Zahid and Zahid Mohammed, both 20, are currently in custody.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of three other men in connection with the inquiry.

The 15-year-old's body was discovered by a member of the public on the Clyde walkway near to the Celtic club in London Road, Parkhead on Tuesday, 16 March.

Mr McKechnie read out a tribute from Angela Donald which said: "Kriss was a beautiful child and he grew into the most placid and gentle and loving boy we could wish to have. 'God gave me an angel'."

Members of the congregation sobbed as a tribute was read out from Kriss's 17-year-old sister Samantha.

'Place in our hearts'

It read: "Tragic is too soft a word to describe what happened to him.

"Kriss was not perfect but did not have enemies or grudges.

"As we say goodbye to him I feel the need to let him know that there will always be a place in our hearts for him.

"Goodbye beautiful angel, you will always be loved."

Kriss's family then travelled to Linn Cemetery for a private burial.

A police investigation was launched following the death of the youngster last month.

It had been feared the alleged abduction and murder would ignite racial tensions in the ethnically-mixed Pollokshields area of Glasgow.

But instead Bashir Maan, of the Glasgow Central Mosque, said the community had united in grief.

Mr Maan said: "Most of the people were crying in the church. My thoughts are with the family and the whole community.

"The whole Asian community shares the sorrow of the Donald family."
