Gangster found with guns jailed

Leon Seales Edwards A gang member who was found hoarding guns and bullets at his south Manchester home has been jailed.

Leon Edwards, 26, of Campbell Road, Longsight, was found with two pistols hidden in the cistern of the toilet.

Edwards admitted possession of two guns with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of ammunition with the intent for another to endanger life.

He was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence at Manchester Crown Court, to serve at least four years and 35 days.

Edwards was also placed on licence for life.

He was a member of one of south Manchester's main gangs, the Longsight Crew, whose turf war with the rival Gooch and Doddington gangs has led to countless shootings and murders.

Police raided his home at dawn on 10 January and found a sports bag hidden in the cistern of his toilet.

It concealed two handguns, one was already loaded with five bullets and ready for use.

The writing in his house

Officers also recovered a CS gas canister and body armour inside the house.

Edwards also had scrawled the message "Live by it + die by it the gun" on the wall inside his house in Longsight.

Det Insp Chris Packer from Greater Manchester Police said: "The writing on the wall of his house reflects his cavalier attitude to life.

"If ever there was a case which portrayed the impact of joining a gang on a young man's life, this is it. It isn't glamorous and it doesn't guarantee respect.

"I hope this case vividly highlights to young people the dangers of becoming involved in gang life."
