Air firm rules out USAF base move

One of the biggest employers in Cambridge - Marshall's Aerospace - has ruled out a move to the US Air Force base RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk.

The firm has been looking to move so some of its Cambridge site can be used for thousands of new homes.

A range of financial and legal issues had been identified which meant a relocation to the American air base was not feasible, the firm said.

Plans to relocate to RAF Wyton, near Huntingdon may now be reconsidered.

In 2006 Marshall Aerospace started discussions with Huntingdonshire District Council over a possible move to RAF Wyton from its Cambridge City Airport home.

It was prompted by a city council proposal two years before, to earmark some of the firm's airport land for up to 3,500 new homes.
