Daffodils planted to aid charity

People living in Berkshire have been invited to plant and sponsor 13,000 daffodil bulbs to raise cash for a cancer charity.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council is calling on volunteers to create four "Fields of Hope" to bloom next spring.

All the proceeds will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care, a spokesman said.

The first of four planting events will take place at Broomhall Recreation Ground, Sunningdale later.

Network of nurses

Councillor Simon Dudley, the council's lead member for adult and community services, said: "There can be very few of us who have not been affected by cancer, either personally or through a family member or friend.

"Residents can do their bit by sponsoring a bulb, perhaps in memory of a loved one, or by joining in one of our planting sessions."

Marie Curie employs more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide care to thousands of terminally ill patients within communities and in their hospices across the country.

Its network of nurses work within communities to provide "end-of-life" care for patients in their own homes.

The other plant-a-daffodil sessions will take place at Desborough Park and Oaken Grove Park on 21 November; and Home Park in Windsor on 22 November.
