BBC News 24 presenter
Carrie Gracie presents News 24 between 8.30 and 11am and between 5 and 6pm on Fridays and between 10am and 1pm on Saturdays.
She was born in Bahrain and educated in Kent, Aberdeenshire and Glasgow.
She set up a restaurant before going to first Edinburgh and then Oxford Universities, graduating with a first class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1984.
She taught English and Economics in China for a year, returning to the UK to set up a small film business.
She joined BBC World Service in 1987 as a production trainee and served as Beijing reporter from 1991 until 1995, when she went back to school to earn an MA in Design for Interactive Media and to complete a degree in Mandarin Chinese.
She then returned to the Beijing bureau for two years, but has been back in the UK since 1999, first as a presenter for World Service radio, and now as a presenter for BBC News 24.
