North America Business correspondent

Stephen Evans was appointed the BBC's North America Business correspondent in March 2001.

Prior to this he was industry correspondent working for both BBC radio and television.

Stephen joined BBC Radio Wales in 1983 as a producer of a programme called Meet for Lunch.

Between 1985 and 1989 he worked at HTV in Cardiff, winning Welsh TV Reporter of the year in 1988.

In 1988 Stephen worked in London as a reporter for BBC Radio 4's World at One, before becoming BBC industry correspondent.

Stephen was on the ground floor of one of the World Trade Centre towers when the planes flew into the complex on September 11, 2001 and gave his eyewitness account live to the BBC's radio and television networks.

He has won Sony Radio Gold Award for programmes he made about Detroit and the car and music industries.

Stephen was born in Cardiff, Wales and studied Economics at Cambridge University.
