Does the BBC back the Olympics?
Audience question:

Does the BBC back London's bid for the Olympics in 2012? If not, why not?

BBC response:

The role of BBC News is to report on the Olympic bid rather than to support it.

We aim to give people information about the London bid and the other bids and to report on events in the run-up to the IOC decision.

We do this recognising the fact that there are differing views about the merits or otherwise of the bid and we need to reflect this spread of opinion.

- Adrian Van Klaveren, Deputy Director, BBC News
