Kaplinsky wins big at TV awards

Kaplinsky dedicated her award to the team behind BBC Breakfast

Natasha Kaplinsky has been named Newscaster of the Year at a national awards ceremony.

The Breakfast presenter beat BBC colleagues Huw Edwards and George Alagiah to the title at the TRIC awards.

The awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, are voted by members of the Television and Radio Industries Club.

Kaplinsky, 32, described her award for best newscaster as a "huge honour".

She added: "Despite all the sequins and other exciting things I have done this year I'm so thrilled to still be considered a newscaster."

She dedicated the award to the news team who work behind the scenes on BBC Breakfast, which itself was named best daytime programme.

"Although we sit there on the sofa and read the news and tell you what you need to know, actually it's the team who work so hard."

It was a triple success for Kaplinsky as Strictly Come Dancing, which she co-hosts, was named best TV entertainment programme.
