BBC Athens correspondent
Richard Galpin is the BBC's Athens correspondent.
Prior to his latest role, he was the BBC's Jakarta correspondent from 1999 to 2002.
He first joined the BBC in 1988 as a news trainee.
After completing his training in 1990,
Richard joined BBC World Service Radio News and Current Affairs as a producer. Based in London, he travelled to countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal to cover assignments.
Between 1994 and 1996 he was the BBC's Dhakka correspondent. He then worked as a freelance correspondent based in Pakistan for the BBC and the Guardian newspaper.
Richard graduated from Oxford University in 1985 with a degree in Modern History, before completing a postgraduate course in journalism at City University in 1987.
He was born in Manchester on 30 September 1963.
