Bestival prepared for more rain

Amy Winehouse

Bestival organiser Rob da Bank has said his team have been working on safety measures to prevent a mud-bath following heavy rainfall at the site.

Talking to Newsbeat he said that the main stage field had been resurfaced to help music fans.

He said: "We're doing everything humanly possible to make the event a fitting fifth anniversary celebration."

Bestival, which takes place on the Isle of Wight, traditionally wraps up the UK festival season.

The weekend forecast predicts a continuation of the rain for Saturday and Sunday but festival organisers are keeping up to date with an hourly forecast from the Met Office.

Da Bank added: "We've braved the elements and the sun is now shining. The Bestival crowd have responded in true style, and I'm pleased to say Bestival 08 is underway.

"We've resurfaced the entire main stage area at great expense to make it stable for everybody to catch all of the bands."

Amy Winehouse is set to headline on Saturday night and other artists on the bill include Hot Chip, Pendulum and My Bloody Valentine.

"Last year I just had a gimp mask, so I've got a full head mask this year. "
Matthew Horne

Will Young, who's also performing, said: "I'm not nervous, I'm really excited.

"It's the last festival. It's been such a great run for me, such a new thing.

"I'm concentrating on my outfits that I'm going to wear at the moment. It could involve a bull and a red cape - that's all I'm saying."

Gavin and Stacey star Matthew Horne is also making an appearance at Robin Hill Country Park.

He's celebrating his 30th birthday on Saturday and looking forward to the big fancy dress parade.

He said: "Last year I just had a gimp mask, so I've got a full head mask this year.

"I get hassle quite a lot at festivals. It's quite good watching the difference from people coming up to you, to putting a mask on and people completely avoiding you because you look so hideous.

"So I've got a really disgusting mask this year - which I might wear when I'm DJing as well."
