Babestation girls on Jacqui's porn

By Dave Howard
Newsbeat Politics Reporter

She's "angry". She's "sorry" - and she's had some "lively discussions" about it with her husband after he put his TV porn bill on her expense tab. She's now had words with him about exploiting women. Is she right? Newsbeat's been hearing from some of the presenters at adult TV channel Babestation Daytime.

Adult TV presenters discuss the porn industry

It would be embarrassing for any wife to read about her husband's porn viewing on the front pages of the national newspapers.

But Jacqui Smith says a big part of her job as Home Secretary is "making sure women are safe ... whether or not from sexual assault or domestic abuse".

Some people believe it's hard for her to set a good example to others while her husband is known for buying and watching porn - particularly as taxpayers ended up paying the bill.

The couple have been saying all along that it was an accident, and that they've paid the money back.

Jacqui Smith says it's been embarrassing, but she never thought of resigning over the issue.

Porn payment

But there's a wider argument here too - as the porn payment is just one of a string of revelations over MPs expenses.

Jacqui Smith and a growing number of MPs and ministers are under scrutiny about much bigger claims - for things like furniture for second homes and jobs for family members.

The total bill comes to hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers' cash.

Most of the accused MPs say they acted within the rules but many say enough is enough, they think the rules have got to change.
