New 'thinnest laptop' rivals Apple
By Dan Whitworth

Dell Adamo laptop

Dell have released what they claim is the thinnest laptop in the world.

At just 16mm thick, the Adamo, which means "to fall in love with" in Latin, looks set to rival the Apple MacBook Air.

Dell have described the new laptop as "the pinnacle of craftsmanship and design".

However, at £1,649 the Adamo is an expensive buy, and it's also playing catch up with Apple, who launched the MacBook Air over a year ago.

So is it good enough to take Apple's crown?

Well, it does look pretty slick and the 13.4 inch HD screen has an edge-to-edge display making it perfect for playing games or watching TV shows and films.

As you'd expect it comes with WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a backlit keyboard.

The main body of the chassis is also, like the MacBook Air, manufactured from a single piece of aluminium.

One area where the Adamo does beat its rival is in USB ports - it's got three compared to the MacBook's two.

Probably down to its ultra-thin design, there's still no internal DVD drive, though.

Instead, as with extra storage options, users will have to make do with external accessories.
