A new world atlas which concentrates on population rather than land mass has been published. Researchers from the University of Sheffield created the online atlas of 200 maps. They were redrawn to show which cities are the largest.
-
The images also compare urban areas like cities and whether people live in the countryside or not. They've been created using information about where people live so it's easier to understand which countries have the largest populations.
-
The new map of the UK based on population shows a massive bulge from London with Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Belfast all appearing smaller.
-
The map of America shows a country dominated by its two largest cities, New York and Los Angeles.
-
The map of France is dominated by its capital city, Paris with areas like Marseille, Toulouse and Lyon appearing much smaller.
