Barack and Michelle Obama attended 10 inaugural balls in Washington DC on Tuesday night, following Obama's historic inauguration as the United States' first black president.

A host of stars performed for Obama at the Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball - from left, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Faith Hill, Jaimie Foxx, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Will.I.Am.

The Obamas danced while Beyonce performed At Last at the first inaugural ball following Barack Obama's inauguration on Tuesday.

Alicia Keys performed at the Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball in Washington DC, at one point taking to the stage with Beyonce, Jaimie Foxx and Faith Hill.

Anne Hathaway turned up at the Creative Coalition's Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts in Washington.

Barack Obama shook hands with supporter and actor Denzel Washington at the Neighbourhood ball in Washington.

Heather Graham celebrated Obama's inauguration as president of the United States at the Creative Coalition ball.

Shakira went to the RIAA And Feeding America Inauguration Charity Ball. The singer also performed at the Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball on Tuesday evening.

Mariah Carey also performed at the star-studded Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball in Washington DC on Tuesday evening. The event was one of 10 held around the capital.

Singer Sheryl Crow was one of the stars who performed at the Midwest Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
