Stars record covers for War Child
The Kooks
The Kooks have contributed a track by The Kinks for the new War Child album

The Kooks, Duffy and Beck have recorded tracks for the forthcoming War Child covers album, Heroes.

They join Hot Chip, who previously told Newsbeat they had laid down a version of Joy Division's Transmission, and Rufus Wainwright.

The concept of the record involves legendary acts such as David Bowie choosing tracks from their back catalogue for current artists to sing.

The compilation is due to be released on 24 November.

Among the tracks slated to appear on the album are The Kook's cover of The Kinks track Victoria, Duffy's take on Live And Let Die and Beck's version of Bob Dylan's Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat.

Sir Paul McCartney said: "The breadth of talent on this project is amazing and it's great that so many people gave their time, energy and support to this initiative.

I think Duffy's version of Live And Let Die is great - I was really impressed

"I think Duffy's version of Live And Let Die is great too - I was really impressed."

The release comes three years after War Child's last album Help! A Day In The Life, which featured Radiohead, Coldplay and the Manic Street Preachers.

Former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has been signed up to design the cover for the new record after creating original artwork for the charity's debut album in 1995.

War Child helps children in war torn countries across the world.
