Some of the biggest names in urban music, including Pixie Lott, Tinchy Stryder, N-Dubz and Chipmunk, have joined forces to record a new single for the War Child project.

The stars, who have called themselves Young Soul Rebels, are recording a remix of The Killers' All These Things That I've Done.

They have taken the hook "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" and put their own spin on the song.

The charity single, which is in support of children ravaged by war around the world, is due to be released in August.

War Child's music and entertainment director, Ben Knowles said: "The concept was born out of the big collaboration that was done last year with Coldplay, The Killers, Bono and Gary Barlow, when they all got together and sang this song.

"So we thought we'd take it one step further and try and get the message out to a new generation.

"The Killers have totally approved the track and it's going to be big.

"Some of the artists have already had five number one tracks between them this year so far. It's very exciting."

Raise awareness

One of the lead vocals on the track, Tulisa, from N-Dubz, said the single aimed to raise awareness.

"It's an issue that hasn't been looked at enough. And you know, even until I found out about this event, I didn't really know that much about it, and that's saying something you know.

"And the fact that I'm only finding out now is not really good enough. So that was every reason for me to get involved."

VV Brown, who has also laid down a track for the record, said it was nice to be doing something for other people.

"I think it's really easy when you're a musician to get consumed with your own self. You're making music and you know, everyone's asking you questions about your life and stuff. I think it's nice to give something to someone else and be part of something conscious."

She said there were a whole host of other artists, including Shingai from Noisettes, who would have loved to have been invited onto the track.

And Bashy said he gave the track his all, even though he is not used to singing.

"Well to be honest, I'm trying to sneak in a little bar. If I could get like, two or three, four bars, I'll be happy. But, I think they're deciding now. There are two little breaks where you can spit. But I don't mind, the singing isn't about me.

"There should be no egos here, no celebrities, no stars. We're all musicians coming together for something that's positive and I think that's how it should stay."
