Elbow
The Manchester band have been playing together for 18 years

Elbow have picked up two awards at this year's Ivor Novello Awards.

At the afternoon ceremony held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Guy Garvey's band claimed the prize for best contemporary song for Grounds For Divorce and best song musically and lyrically for One Day Like This.

It follows the group's high profile win at last year's Mercury Music Prize.

The Ivor Novello Awards, held annually, honour "excellence in British song writing".

Other winners at the ceremony included Manchester band The Ting Tings winning best album for their debut We Started Nothing and Coldplay winning best selling British song.

Now in its 54th year, previous winners include Led Zeppelin, The Spice Girls and Oasis.

Judges of the awards this year included Beth Orton and Cerys Matthews.
