Green Day have confirmed plans to hit the road for a 10 date arena tour of the UK.

The band will perform a series of gigs in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Sheffield in October.

Tickets for the shows go on sale on 1 May at 10am.

Their eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown, which has been produced by Butch Vig and is divided into three acts, is released a fortnight later on May 15.

The band will play Glasgow SECC [19 May], London O2 Arena [23, 24], Sheffield Arena [26], Birmingham LG Arena [27].

Green Day started work on 21st Century Breakdown early in 2006.

The album follows a young couple, Christian and Gloria, through the century so far.

The three 'acts' include Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints and Horseshoes and Handgrenades.

Green Day's first single from the record, Know Your Enemy, is out now.
