Billie Joe Armstrong has claimed the band's new songs are "middle-aged"

Green Day have confirmed release details of their eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown.

The follow up to 2004's American Idiot will hit shelves in the US on 15 May with the UK date expected to be around the same time.

First single Know Your Enemy will proceed the release in mid-April, according to US magazine Spin.

As previously reported the LP is produced by Butch Vig [Nirvana, Garbage] and divided into three 'acts'.
