Adele hopes for Brits success

Chasing Pavements singer Adele says she's hoping to follow up her success at last week's Grammys in Los Angeles by winning the breakthrough artist award at next week's Brits. But she says she's not looking forward to the ceremony because she's off the booze this year.

Adele picked up two awards at last week's Grammys in LA

You have three nominations for next week's Brits. Are you happy with that?

I'm very pleased with that. I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm really chuffed, really excited. I already have a Critics' Choice Brit Award, which is kind of why I didn't think I'd be nominated this year for last year. And also there's been so many amazing artists out this year I didn't really think I could compete with any of them, so I'm chuffed.

Do you think you have a good chance of winning any of them?

I think I've got as good a chance as anyone else. I think Duffy will win best female. I'd like to win best breakthrough. That would be nice. But then it might be Leona [Lewis] wins best female, Duffy wins best breakthrough. Or maybe The Ting Tings and Scouting For Girls will win them. But I think I've got as good a chance as anyone else. I'd like to think I do.

Are you looking forward to the Brits next week at London's Earls Court?

I was saying I love Duffy and I love Jonas Brothers. I think they're really fit. I love them too
Adele on giving a shout out to Jonas Brother and Duffy at the Grammys in LA

No. I'm not actually because I've stopped drinking. Last time I was at the Brit awards everyone was drunk off their face before the whole room had even sat down. It was like endless Jack Daniels last year and I've stopped drinking so I'm just going to be on cranberry juice. So I'm not looking forward to the awards.

I'm looking forward to the performances though. I'm looking forward to that part of it but I'm not looking forward to sitting at the table.

They've got James Corden, Mathew Horne and Kylie presenting together. Are you looking forward to that?

She'll get so many sex gag jokes from James. I love them two as well. They'll be really fun.

You were performing last year. Does that take the pressure off this year?

Yeah. Definitely. It gets so nerve-racking anyway, having to get out of the car and do the red carpet and the media trail. That's just as bad and nerve-racking as doing a performance. So yeah, definitely.

Have you thought yet about what you're going to wear? I know you had Vogue styling you at the Grammys.

Yeah. Anna Wintour [editor-in-chief of American Vogue] did me for the Grammys. And I saw some photos yesterday on the covers of some magazines in England where it's Adele dressed by Anna Wintour and then me at the hotel the next day. And I look like the girl from Twilight.

I had a picky beehive. I couldn't undo it because I had to put an elastic band in my hair because I ran out of hair bands on the day of the Grammys. I couldn't get them out because of my nails. So the photos are awful. I saw a dress when I was driving past Debenhams yesterday. I'm not really on a level with Anna Wintour to call her up and go, 'Alright. Do you want to dress me for the Brits as well?'.

Did you get to meet Jonas Brothers at the Grammys? Because you did a shout out to them on stage.

I did. I got to meet them two days before. Neil Diamond won person of the year at the Grammys and I did Music Cares for him. And Jonas Brothers were doing it and they shouted, 'Hello Adele' down from the stage. I was like, 'Oh, who's that? Oh my god', and ran out of the door. And I met them afterwards and they were really nice. I did a shout out to Duffy and Jonas Brothers.

Me and Duffy got so excited on the red carpet at the Grammys. They'd announced more than half of the awards already before because there are so many categories. I got out of the car and we were high fiving each other in the middle of this red carpet and everyone was like, 'What are they doing? Who are they?'. And we were so excited we'd both won a Grammy at that point.

I love Duffy so much. People always try and make out that we don't like each other. I was really proud to be there and be nominated with her. I think she's really amazing. So I was saying I love Duffy and I love Jonas Brothers. I think they're really fit. I love them too.
